MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A senior nuclear energy official in the
Biden administration is facing charges of stealing a suitcase at
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Sam Brinton serves as a senior official in the Department of
Energy. According to charges, the theft happened in September
with Brinton reportedly taking a Vera Bradley roller bag worth
$2,325 from a luggage carousel at MSP.

In a criminal complaint, police say they spotted Brinton on
security video recordings removing the tags identifying the
owner from the luggage while stealing the luggage.

According to the charges, Brinton was seen on two other
occasions after the theft using the luggage.

Brinton also reportedly admitted to investigators to stealing
the luggage when police contacted her about the suitcase. Police
say Brinton initially denied the theft but later called
investigators back two hours later and apologized for not being
"completely honest."

Investigators instructed Brinton on October 9 on how to return
the luggage to Delta. However, by the filing date of the charges
on October 27, the bags still hadn't been returned, police say.

Brinton is charged with theft for the incident. In a statement
to Fox News, a Department of Energy spokesperson says Brinton is
on leave.

Perhaps someone in the woke Biden administration should have
told Sam Brinton that inclusion doesn’t include designer luggage
lifted from the airport.

Brinton, the Department of Energy’s non-binary deputy assistant
secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition, has been charged
with stealing a fellow traveler’s Vera Bradley suitcase from the
luggage carousel at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International
Airport. The suitcase is valued at $2,325.

The alleged theft occurred on Sept. 16, according to a criminal
complaint obtained by Fox News Digital. Brinton had traveled
from Washington, D.C., to Minneapolis that day.

“After the suitcase’s owner alerted police, officers reviewed
video surveillance of the carousel and identified Brinton taking
the luggage before removing its tag identifying the owner, the
court filings stated,” Fox News Digital reported. “Law
enforcement observed Brinton using the luggage during at least
two other trips to Washington, D.C., on Sept. 18 and Oct. 9.

Brinton denied stealing the luggage, although confirmed still
possessing it.

“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I
don’t have any clothes for another individual,” Brinton told an
officer. “That was my clothes when I opened the bag.”

Two hours after the phone call with the officer, Brinton called
back and apologized for not being “completely honest.” But
Brinton said it was a mistake and blamed being tired for taking
the wrong bag at the carousel, according to the criminal
complaint, which exhaustively labors over using the correct
pronoun.

Brinton was ultimately charged with felony theft of a movable
property without consent, a charge that could result in a five-
year sentence, $10,000 fine or both.

Brinton was placed on leave about a month ago and another
official was named as a replacement in the interim earlier this
month, according to the Exchange Monitor which tracks government
hires. The DOE originally didn’t explain why Brinton took leave
at the time.

“Sam Brinton is on leave from DOE, and Dr. Kim Petry is
performing the duties of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent
Fuel and Waste Disposition,” a DOE spokesperson told Fox News
Digital in a statement.

In June, Brinton made headlines after assuming the position in
the DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy as one of the government’s
first-ever non-binary officials.

“There’s been a lot of people who are quite upset that don’t
think that I am quite as qualified as others,” Brinton told E&E
News in October. “I respond with multiple graduate degrees from
MIT, a decade of working in nuclear policy and the strongest
enthusiasm for working in nuclear waste out of anybody.”

Yul Brynner in a dress also appears to have a penchant for Vera
Bradley.

A Biden administration official has been charged with felony
theft and is on leave from their post after being accused of
stealing a mother's Vera Bradley suitcase from an airport in
Minnesota, according to court documents and the federal
government.

Sam Brinton, the deputy assistant secretary of the Office of
Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition at the Department of Energy's
Office of Nuclear Energy, was accused of taking the luggage from
baggage claim at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on September
16, according to a complaint filed last month.

The 26-inch navy blue hard-sided roller bag and its contents
were estimated to be worth $2,325, according to the court
documents obtained by Insider.

Surveillance footage captured Brinton, 35, taking the Vera
Bradley luggage from the carousel at around 4:45 p.m. after
Brinton arrived at the airport on an American Airlines flight
from Washington, DC, the court documents allege.

The complaint states that Brinton took off the bag's tag and
left the area "at a quick pace" before hopping into a cab;
records from American Airlines show Brinton never checked a bag
before they left Washington DC, according to the court papers.

Brinton was then caught on surveillance footage checking into a
luxury riverfront hotel in St. Paul with the bag, the complaint
says.

Two days later, on September 18, Brinton was seen checking the
bag before boarding a flight back to Washington DC, the
documents state. Brinton was again seen on surveillance video
carrying the bag at Washington Dulles International Airport in
Virginia after returning from a Europe trip on October 9,
investigators said.

When a Minnesota police officer called Brinton that day, Brinton
denied taking someone else's bag.

"If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I
don't have any clothes for another individual. That was my
clothes when I opened the bag," Brinton told the officer, the
complaint states.

The complaint alleges that Brinton then called the officer back
two hours later and apologized for not being "completely honest."

Brinton told the officer that they were tired and picked up the
wrong bag and only realized when they got to the hotel and
opened the suitcase.

The complaint says Brinton "got nervous people would think they
stole the bag and did not know what to do."

Brinton told police they left the clothes from the bag inside
the drawers in the hotel room and admitted to taking the bag
back to the airport on September 18.

When Brinton was questioned why they would use the bag, Brinton
said they thought it would be "weirder" to leave the luggage in
the hotel room rather than the clothes, the court papers say.

Police did not recover any clothes from the hotel room where
Brinton stayed and as of October 27 — when the complaint was
filed — the owner of the Vera Bradley bag has not gotten it
back, according to the court documents.

The Department of Energy told Insider on Tuesday that Brinton is
"on leave" from the agency and that Dr. Kim Petry is now
"performing the duties of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent
Fuel and Waste Disposition."

An attorney for Brinton did not immediately respond to a request
for comment by Insider.

Brinton, who is one of the federal government's first openly
"gender fluid" employees, faces up to five years in prison or a
$10,000 fine or both. They are scheduled to make their first
court appearance in Minnesota's 4th Judicial District Court on
December 19.

Since the news of Brinton's arrest, Republicans like former
President Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., have used the
criminal case to bash Brinton over their gender identity.

"Who could have seen this coming from they/them?" Trump Jr. said
in a tweet.

GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert tweeted, "This man, hired by Joe Biden,
is a thief" along with a photo of Brinton in a dress.

A senior official in the Biden administration’s Department of
Energy has been charged with felony theft after allegedly
stealing a piece of luggage from the baggage claim at
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Sam Brinton, a biological male who identifies as nonbinary, is
accused of taking the Vera Bradley suitcase worth $2,325 in
September.

Following a missing bag complaint, law enforcement obtained
video surveillance footage showing Brinton taking the suitcase
from the airport’s baggage carousel.

“[Brinton] removed the blue bag’s tag and put the bag tag in the
handbag they were carrying,” the court documents read.
“Defendant then left the area at a quick pace.”

Court documents allege that Brinton did not originally check a
bag when departing from Washington heading to Minnesota.

In the weeks following, Brinton is believed to have used the
stolen bag on a trip to Europe, according to a report.

On Oct. 9, Brinton denied stealing anything but admitted to
taking the bag, telling a police officer who had called to
inquire about the incident: “If I had taken the wrong bag, I am
happy to return it, but I don’t have any clothes for another
individual. That was my clothes when I opened the bag.”

In June, Brinton announced the acceptance of a job as the
department's deputy assistant secretary of the Office of Spent
Fuel and Waste Disposition.

"Sam Brinton is on leave from DOE, and Dr. Kim Petry is
performing the duties of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent
Fuel and Waste Disposition," a spokesperson for the Energy
Department told Fox News.

If convicted, Brinton could be sentenced to up to five years
behind bars, $10,000, or both.

Sam Brinton, a Biden administration nuclear official, made
headlines this week after they were arrested for allegedly
stealing a woman’s suitcase in Minneapolis airport — and then
using it for a month before claiming it was taken by accident.

But it isn’t the first time the 35-year-old nuclear engineer has
made the news.

Brinton, who uses they/them pronouns, became one of the federal
government’s first gender non-binary officials earlier this year
when they took on a role in the Department of Energy’s Office of
Nuclear Energy.

So who is Sam Brinton – and what path did they take to get in
the Biden administration?

Southern Baptist background

Brinton was born in Iowa to Southern Baptist missionary parents
who moved the family from place to place.

They told Yahoo Life last month that they came out as bisexual
to their parents in high school — and was quickly put into a
conversion therapy program for two years in a bid to change
their sexual identity.

“It caused a lot of suicidal ideation in my life,” Brinton told
the outlet.

“It did a lot of damage to both me and my family because my
family was given the false hope that I could just flip a switch,
and change when I would recognize that I wasn’t changing.”

Their experience spurred them to launch the #50Bills50States
campaign with The Trevor Project, a LGBTQ youth organization, to
try and ban conversion therapy nationwide.

“We passed more than 20 laws ending conversion therapy,
protecting future generations from ever having to go through
what I went through,” Brinton said.

It was around this time that Brinton decided to start pursuing
nuclear engineering.

From nuclear engineer to government official

Brinton obtained their undergraduate degree in mechanical
engineering with a nuclear engineering focus from Kansas State
University before going on to the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology to receive graduate degrees in nuclear science and
engineering.

Before taking up the government job, Brinton spent several years
working for liberal and environmentalist think tanks — including
the Breakthrough Institute, Clean Air Task Force and Third Way.

They were named deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and
waste disposition at the Department of Energy’s Office of
Nuclear Energy back in June.

Brinton celebrated the new gig by posting a photo on social
media that showed them wearing a red jumpsuit, bright lipstick
and Stars and Stripes-clad stilettos.

In their role, Brinton manages “ongoing research and development
related to long-term disposition of spent nuclear fuel and high-
level radioactive waste,” according to their official government
bio page.

Views on gender identity

Brinton opened up on becoming the first openly genderfluid
person in government service, telling Yahoo Life that they had
been given an opportunity to “serve my country as I am.”

“I can’t change my identity more than anyone can change
intrinsic parts about themselves, but I can change my openness,”
they said.

“And so I am given the opportunity to serve my country as I am,
and that’s a really important aspect of my work because I work
on nuclear waste management, where transparency and honesty and
trust-building are so critical.”

They added: “So if I can’t be myself, it’s really hard to build
those relationships. I’m proud to say that, yes, I get to be the
first openly genderfluid person in this type of government
service, but I won’t be the last.”

The suitcase
Brinton’s arrest for the alleged theft came just months after
they took up the federal government gig.

They are accused of snatching a $2,325 Vera Bradley suitcase
from baggage claim at Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport back on Sept.
16, court documents say.

When Brinton was confronted by police nearly a month later, they
initially denied stealing the bag — insisting their clothes were
inside the suitcase at the time.

But Brinton quickly backtracked and claimed they had taken the
piece of luggage by mistake.

Brinton told police they first realized the bag wasn’t theirs
when they opened it at the hotel. They got nervous that someone
would think they stole it, so they emptied out the suitcase and
dumped the woman’s clothes in the drawers of the hotel room, the
court documents say.

Surveillance footage showed Brinton allegedly grabbing the
luggage from the carousel and removing the ID tag identifying
the owner. Brinton was later captured on surveillance using the
same suitcase on at least two trips to Washington, DC, on Sept.
18 and Oct. 9, according to authorities.

The Biden official was charged with felony theft of a moveable
property without consent.

Giving important government positions to people like this prove
that Biden is more interested in LGBTQ votes and money than
doing what is right for the United States. This person is not
suitable to hold any public office. He is an affront to
seriousness of holding public office. He might as well be an
alcoholic who cannot control himself. He belongs in therapy and
not in holding high government office.

A prominent Republican senator has called on the Biden
administration to fire an LGBT activist who identifies as non-
binary over being recently charged with stealing luggage.

Sam Brinton, a man who identifies as non-binary and dresses in
women's clothes, serves as deputy assistant secretary for Spent
Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy in
the Department of Energy under the Biden administration.

Sen. John Barrasso, who serves as ranking member of the Energy
and Natural Resources Committee, sent a letter to Energy
Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Tuesday expressing “serious
concerns” regarding the “felony theft charges brought against”
Brinton.

“It is in the interest of both the Department’s mission and our
national security that the Deputy Assistant Secretary’s
clearance be immediately revoked. Additionally, the Department
should undertake all necessary steps to terminate their
employment immediately,” wrote Barrasso.

Barrasso cited an earlier letter from July, stating that it was
“imperative” that “executive branch officials are free of a
history of conduct unbecoming of federal service.”

“I am requesting that you immediately launch a comprehensive
review of the Department’s security clearance adjudication
process and report to me the findings no later than February 1,
2023,” he continued.

Brinton was appointed to the senior position in the Energy
Department in June, announcing his new role in a post to Twitter
earlier this year, which showed him wearing women’s clothing.

In November, Brinton was charged with felony theft after
allegedly stealing a woman's designer luggage from the baggage
claim at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport back in
September. The luggage by designer Vera Bradley is worth $2,325.
The woman's clothes that were in the suitcase are now missing.

“[Brinton] removed the blue bag’s tag and put the bag tag in the
handbag they were carrying,” read the court documents, as
reported by the Washington Examiner. “Defendant then left the
area at a quick pace.”

Brinton reportedly used the stolen suitcase for a trip to Europe
before being contacted by authorities in October regarding the
item.

In response to the allegations, Brinton claimed back in October
that he did not steal the bag, but took it by mistake.

“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I
don’t have any clothes for another individual. That was my
clothes when I opened the bag,” Brinton claimed, according to
the Examiner.

The Energy Department put Brinton on leave pending the result of
the investigation, with a hearing scheduled for Dec. 19,
according to the Daily Mail.

An MIT graduate, Brinton previously garnered controversy earlier
this year over social media posts depicting him engaging in
sexually fetishistic imagery and actions.

“In a White House bent on normalizing ‘queer culture,’ Sam
Brinton's appointment as deputy assistant secretary of spent
fuel and waste disposition is par for the deviant course,” wrote
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins in an op-ed
published by The Christian Post in February.

“But to everyday Americans, who thought they were getting a
‘moderate’ president, the picture of our newest government
official standing over a man in a dog collar is a poorly-timed
reminder that voters elected anything but.”

A non-binary Biden administration nuclear official accused of
stealing a woman’s suitcase from the Minneapolis airport
allegedly emptied out the clothes and used the bag for a month —
despite insisting it was picked up by accident.

Sam Brinton — one of the federal government’s first gender non-
binary officials — allegedly snatched the $2,325 Vera Bradley
suitcase from baggage claim at Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport back
on Sept. 16, court documents say.

When Brinton, who uses they/them pronouns, was confronted by

Brinton allegedly put the ordeal down to exhaustion.

When police were first alerted to the stolen bag, they reviewed
surveillance footage that showed Brinton allegedly grabbing the
luggage from the carousel and removing the ID tag identifying
the owner.

Brinton was later captured on surveillance using the same
suitcase on at least two trips to Washington, DC, on Sept. 18

Police first made contact with Brinton on Oct. 9 about the
alleged stolen suitcase.

“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I

Brinton called the officer back two hours and confessed to not

The Biden official was charged with felony theft of a moveable

They were placed on leave in the wake of the allegations and
another official was named as their interim replacement earlier
this month, according to the Exchange Monitor, which tracks

One of the U.S. federal government’s first non-binary officials
has been arrested and charged with stealing luggage at a
Minneapolis airport.

Fox News reports that Sam Brinton — deputy assistant secretary
for spent fuel and waste disposition at the Department of
Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy — has been charged with felony
theft in the September incident.

Cops allege Brinton snatched a $2,325 Vera Bradley suitcase from
baggage claim. Court documents reveal that Brinton — who uses
they/them pronouns — was captured by CCTV grabbing the suitcase
and removing the identification tag.

Brinton was then spotted using the suitcase on two occasions
since. Both times Brinton was travelling to Washington. At
first, Brinton denied snatching the bag but later claimed the
alleged theft was a mistake.

“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I
don’t have any clothes for another individual,” Brinton first
told the officer, Fox News reported. “That was my clothes when I

Two hours later, Brinton called the cop and admitted not being
“completely honest.” Brinton claimed to have been exhausted at
the time.

At the hotel, Brinton realized the luggage was wrong but didn’t
know what to do. Brinton emptied the suitcase, leaving the
clothes in the drawers of a hotel dresser.

The aide was placed on leave about a month ago following the
allegations. If convicted, Brinton could face up to five years
in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (TND) — One of the U.S.'s first non-binary
federal officials allegedly stole a woman's suitcase from an
airport in Minnesota.

Sam Brinton, the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy
"Deputy Assistant Secretary for Spent Fuel and Waste
Disposition," has been charged with felony theft over the
allegedly stolen Vera Bradley brand suitcase from an airport
baggage claim in September, according to court documents
obtained by Fox News. Brinton reportedly uses they/them pronouns.

The stolen baggage is reportedly worth $2,325, and went missing
on September 16. According to a criminal complaint, officers
identified Brinton as the person who took the missing luggage
after reviewing surveillance footage. Brinton was also
reportedly seen on video removing identification tags from the
bag.

Investigators say in the filed criminal complaints that Brinton
was later seen with the bag while they were traveling to
Washington D.C. and at least one other instance. Brinton
reportedly initially denied to police officers that they had
taken the luggage.

If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I
don’t have any clothes for another individual," Brinton
reportedly told authorities, according to Fox News. "That was my
clothes when I opened the bag."
Brinton rescinded that claim just two hours later when they
called authorities back. They alleged they took the expensive
bag by mistake. Brinton blamed "exhaustion" for the mistake,
according to the filed complaint.

DEFENDANT said when they opened the bag at the hotel, they
realized it was not theirs," court filings reportedly state.
"DEFENDANT got nervous people would think they stole the bag and
did not know what to do. DEFENDANT stated they left the clothes
from the bag inside the drawers in the hotel room."
Brinton has been charged with felony theft of moveable property
without consent which, if convicted, could bring a five-year
prison sentence or a $10,000 fine, according to the Exchange
Monitor.

The DOE reportedly confirmed to Fox News that Brinton was placed
on leave following the accusations.

The Biden administration refused to say whether a top official
overseeing nuclear waste policy continues receiving government
pay after being charged with theft.

While the Department of Energy (DOE) has confirmed that Samuel
Brinton, who was named deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel
and waste disposition over the summer, was placed on leave, the
agency has yet to say whether Brinton is still on its payroll.
In October, Brinton was charged with stealing a suitcase worth
$2,325 from a baggage carousel at the Minneapolis St. Paul
Airport.

"Sam Brinton is on leave from DOE, and Dr. Kim Petry is
performing the duties of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent
Fuel and Waste Disposition," a DOE spokesperson told Fox News
Digital in a statement earlier this week.

Fox News Digital contacted the DOE multiple times Thursday but
did not receive a response about whether Brinton continued to
receive a government paycheck despite the outstanding charges.

NON-BINARY BIDEN NUCLEAR OFFICIAL CHARGED WITH STEALING WOMAN'S
LUGGAGE AT AIRPORT

Brinton, who is also one of the federal government's first-ever
officials to identify as non-binary, allegedly took the luggage
after traveling from Washington, D.C., on Sept. 16, according to
a criminal complaint filed on Oct. 26 in Minnesota state court.
Security camera footage of the incident reviewed by law
enforcement showed Brinton taking the bag from carousel before
removing its tag and hurrying away.

Weeks after the incident, Brinton confirmed having the bag when
a police officer called to discuss the matter. However, the DOE
official denied any wrongdoing.

"If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I
don’t have any clothes for another individual," Brinton told the
officer. "That was my clothes when I opened the bag."

SPECIAL COUNSEL RULES BIDEN'S ENERGY SECRETARY VIOLATED HATCH ACT

In a call two hours later, Brinton apologized to the officer for
not being "completely honest" but said the bag was taken due to
tiredness. Still, Brinton was seen trave

Brinton was charged in October with felony theft of a movable
property without consent and, as a result, faces a five-year
imprisonment, a $10,000 fine or both. Brinton is slated to
appear during a court hearing on Dec. 19 in relation to the case.

Brinton's lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.

Brinton had received attention in June after being appointed to
the DOE's Office of Nuclear Energy for being non-binary. In
addition to previous roles at nuclear waste storage firm Deep
Isolation, the Bipartisan Policy Center and think tank Third
Way, Brinton served in a senior role at the Trevor Project, a
group that seeks to prevent suicide among LGBT youth.

"There’s been a lot of people who are quite upset that don’t
think that I am quite as qualified as others," Brinton said in
an interview with E&E News in October.

"I respond with multiple graduate degrees from MIT, a decade of
working in nuclear policy and the strongest enthusiasm for
working in nuclear waste out of anybody."

Assuming that this role at DOE requires a security clearance it
will be interesting to see if this person keeps their job. It’s
next to impossible to maintain a security clearance with a
felony conviction on their record. If this person does keep
their job it’s a true indicator of a rigged system.

Biden Imports POLIO in 2022!

Pelosi says that it is justly deserved because New Yorkers vote Democrat.
New York state health officials have found indications of
additional cases of polio virus in wastewater samples from two
different counties, leading them to warn that hundreds of people
may be infected with the potentially serious virus.

Just two weeks ago, the New York Health Department reported the
nation's first case of polio in almost a decade, in Rockland
County, north of New York City. Officials said that case
occurred in a previously healthy young adult who was
unvaccinated and developed paralysis in their legs. Since then,
three positive wastewater samples from Rockland County and four
from neighboring Orange County were discovered and genetically
linked to the first case, the health department said in a press
release on Thursday, suggesting that the polio virus is being
spread within local communities. The newest samples were taken
from two locations in Orange County in June and July and one
location in Rockland County in July.

"Based on earlier polio outbreaks, New Yorkers should know that
for every one case of paralytic polio observed, there may be
hundreds of other people infected," State Health Commissioner
Dr. Mary T. Bassett said. "Coupled with the latest wastewater
findings, the Department is treating the single case of polio as
just the tip of the iceberg of much greater potential spread. As
we learn more, what we do know is clear: the danger of polio is
present in New York today."

The health department reiterated that it is still investigating
the virus' origin, and said that it is not yet clear whether the
infected person in Rockland County was linked to the other cases.

Polio is "a serious and life-threatening disease," the state
health department said. It is highly contagious and can be
spread by people who aren't yet symptomatic. Symptoms usually
appear within 30 days of infection, and can be mild or flu-like.
Some people who are infected may become paralyzed or die.

Before the polio vaccine was introduced in the 1950s, thousands
of Americans died in polio outbreaks and tens of thousands, many
of them children, were left with paralysis. After a successful
vaccination campaign, polio was officially declared eradicated
in the U.S. in 1979.

Unvaccinated New Yorkers are encouraged to get immunized right
away, the health department said. Unvaccinated people who live,
work or spend time in Rockland County, Orange County and the
greater New York metropolitan area are at the greatest risk.

Most school-aged children have received the polio vaccine, which
is a four-dose course, started between 6 weeks and 2 months of
age and followed by one shot at 4 months, one at 6 to 12 months,
and one between the ages of 4 and 6. According to the health
department, about 60% of children in Rockland County have
received three polio shots before their second birthday, as have
about 59% in Orange County — both below the 79% statewide figure.

According to the CDC's most recent childhood vaccination data,
about 93% of 2-year-olds in the U.S. had received at least three
doses of polio vaccine.

Meanwhile, adults who are not vaccinated would receive a three-
dose immunization, and those who are vaccinated but at high risk
can receive a lifetime booster shot, according to the health
department.

The vaccine is 99% effective in children who receive the full
four-dose regime, health officials said.

"It is concerning that polio, a disease that has been largely
eradicated through vaccination, is now circulating in our
community, especially given the low rates of vaccination for
this debilitating disease in certain areas of our County,"
Orange County Health Commissioner Dr. Irina Gelman said. "I urge
all unvaccinated Orange County residents to get vaccinated as
soon as medically feasible."

Rockland County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia
Schnabel Ruppert issued a similar statement, calling on people
who are not vaccinated to get the shots "immediately."

Polio has rarely appeared in the U.S. since it was declared
eradicated over 40 years ago. The last reported case was brought
by a traveler in 2013, according to The Associated Press.
