The Fix is in! It's a big conspiracy!

Poor Trump is the victim! Send him all your money.
ABC has denied that Vice President Kamala Harris was provided with any
questions ahead of Tuesday’s debate, shooting down one of the talking
points that right-wingers—including former President Donald Trump—tried to
use to explain the former president’s much-criticized debate performance.

“Absolutely not,” an ABC News spokesperson told the Daily Beast. “Harris
was not given any questions before the debate.”

The network’s debate rules stated that “no topics or questions will be
shared in advance with campaigns or candidates.”

The spokesperson also said no aides were in contact with moderators David
Muir and Linsey Davis. Trump aides have attacked the moderators as “agents
of the Harris campaign” following their efforts, which have been almost
universally lauded.

Trump tried to lay the groundwork for potential debate shenanigans ahead of
the debate that would excuse his performance, speculating on both Truth
Social and to Sean Hannity that ABC panelist Donna Brazile—who famously
tipped off Hillary Clinton about questions ahead of CNN events in
2016—would share questions with Harris. It came as Trump has repeatedly
attacked the network—which he is currently suing—as biased.

“Will panelist Donna Brazil [sic] give the questions to the Marxist
Candidate like she did for Crooked Hillary Clinton?” Trump wrote.

But the idea that questions were indeed handed over in advance got its
first dose of oxygen was on Wednesday, when Trump told Fox & Friends that
he felt Harris was “awfully familiar” with the questions as he debated her.

It was further amplified on Thursday by Leading Report, a website that has
repeatedly shared misinformation on everything from politicians to
networks. It claimed on X that an ABC whistleblower would “allegedly”
release an affidavit that said the Harris campaign was given sample
questions in advance and that Harris was given “assurances” that only Trump
would be fact-checked during Tuesday”s debate. (A source familiar with the
matter dismissed the purported “assurances” claim as untrue.)

The website has recently claimed, among other things, that CNN would add a
1-2 minute delay to its June 27 debate (it did not); and that World
Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab had been “allegedly” hospitalized in
April (he was not).

It seemed to have picked up the claim about the questions from an X account
called “Black Insurrectionist.” The account tweeted on Thursday that they
would release the affidavit “before the weekend is out.” It offered no
proof to back up the claim.

Still, billionaire-turned-X-scribe Bill Ackman boosted the Leading Report
post to his 1.4 million followers. “If this turns out to be true, this is a
serious breach of journalistic ethics and a death blow to @ABCNetwork
reputation,” he wrote.

Trump has repeatedly labeled the debate unfair and has claimed he was
battling “THREE ON ONE” throughout the more than 90-minute telecast—all as
he claimed he delivered his best debate performance yet. He wrote early
Thursday the network should “fire everybody” and claimed later in the day
he would not do another debate with Harris.

The Harris campaign responded by calling him a chicken.

Minnesota saw record overdose deaths last year, with officials pointing to the synthetic opioid fentanyl as a primary factor.

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, overdose deaths reached 1,286 in 2021, a 22% increase from the previous year. Of those deaths, 924 involved opioids, an increase of 35%.

Fentanyl was responsible for 834 of the opioid deaths.

For the first time since 2014, the seven-county metro area saw a smaller increase in overdose deaths than the rest of the state, with deaths rising by 23% in Greater Minnesota and 20% in the metro.

“This increase in drug overdose deaths is alarming, but there are things we can do about it,” Minnesota Commissioner of Health Jan Malcolm said in a statement.

“One important step is to expand programs that make it easier for people to access naloxone – a medication that can reverse overdoses and save lives.”

Of the overdose deaths involving opioids, fentanyl was involved in around 90%. Non-opioids drugs that contributed to the most overdoses last year include methamphetamine and cocaine, according to MDH.

Psychostimulants such as methamphetamine was involved in 454 deaths (up 34% from 2020), while cocaine was involved in 154 deaths (up 81% from 2020).

MDH pointed to resources available to prevent overdose deaths, including using fentanyl test strips and Naloxone.

A St. Paul man already facing charges involving sexual attacks on three women was charged in a fourth case Wednesday.

Larry Donnell Griffin

Larry Donnell Griffin, 38, of St. Paul, was charged in Ramsey County District Court with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree aggravated robbery in connection with a Sept. 22 attack.

A 35-year-old woman was walking to a Maryland Avenue drugstore when she saw a metallic Toyota sedan drive past, according to the criminal complaint. She thought she recognized the driver and was trying to look at him when the Toyota stopped and made a U-turn in the middle of the road to pull up alongside her, according to the complaint.

Griffin, the driver, offered to give the victim a ride. While initially she declined his offer, the woman relented after talking with him for several minutes, charges said.

He drove to a gas station for the victim to make a purchase, but she returned to the car when the clerk was busy. When the woman asked Griffin to drop her off so she could meet a friend, he told her that he needed to make another stop, the complaint said.

Griffin then drove to an alley behind the 800 block of Maryland Avenue, threatened her with a knife, and forced her to perform oral sex on him before raping her, according to the complaint. Afterward, Griffin made the woman leave her phone behind, the complaint said.
The Sept. 22 case was connected to the three other rapes attributed to Griffin through DNA evidence, the complaint said.

In those cases, which occurred between August and October, Griffin was charged with six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, four counts of kidnapping and two counts of aggravated first-degree robbery.

The other victims all were walking alone along Payne Avenue when Griffin approached, forced them into the back of his vehicle at gunpoint and raped them, according to the charging documents.

Hennepin County Jail

The man accused of shooting at National Guard soldiers who'd been stationed on a Minneapolis street has been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to three of the seven counts filed against him.

Andrew Thomas, 28, was accused of shooting at the two National Guard soldiers near Penn Avenue North and West Broadway Avenue on April 18, 2021. The soldiers were on patrol as part of Operation Safety Net, the joint law enforcement effort launched for Derek Chauvin's murder trial.

Charges against Thomas say he fired "multiple" shots at two Minneapolis squad cars and three National Guard vehicles early that morning, then sped off. Two soldiers were injured by shattering glass, including to the eye and face, the complaint said.

Thomas, on July 26, agreed to plead guilty to three felony counts, according to court records: Second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm despite a previous conviction and drive-by shooting.

The remaining charges against him were dismissed.

Two of the counts were ordered to be served consecutively, meaning Thomas will serve 96 months, a spokesperson for the Hennepin County Attorney's Office said.

Thomas, in connection with the same incident, was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
